A climate activist from the Federated States of Micronesia, Yolanda Joab-Mori, is leading the way for urgent climate action by engaging her community in climate change education and adaptation action planning. Currently serving as a Community Resilience Specialist at the Pacific Resources for Education & Learning based in Chuuk, Micronesia, Joab-Mori has a strong background in climate change advocacy and leadership, having worked with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to launch the Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction & Education (CADRE) program in 2011, which served as the first climate change focused education program in schools and communities across Micronesia. After the discontinuation of this program at IOM, Joab-Mori founded Island PRIDE, a non-profit organization that continues the legacy of CADRE by empowering communities in the face of climate change. Additionally, Joab-Mori advocates for her home island and the importance of urgent climate action on several international stages including the IUCN World Conservation Congress, One Young World Summit, German Green Party Convention, and the World Forum on Natural Capital.
