Kim Hansen

Principal Consultant, Kleinschmidt Associates

Kim Hansen is a principal consultant and independent consultant at Kleinschmidt Associates, a 200-person firm that has supported the hydropower industry for the last 50 years. Hansen has over 40 years hydropower experience as a civil and structural engineer. Throughout his career, he has worked as a hydropower developer, dam safety engineer, project engineer/project manager on 16 newly constructed projects in North America and five preliminary designs of small international hydro projects.

Recently, Hansen has been involved in the planning of two new pumped storage projects and adding generation at existing U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams. He is also a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission-approved independent consultant for dam safety inspections and has conducted more than 100 inspections throughout his career. Hansen is a former Midwest Hydro Users Group board member and past chair of the Dam Safety Committee. Hansen graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a BS in civil engineering.
